Robert Burns: Alive & Kicking!

A series of five programmes on the Scottish poet Robert Burns, which goes back in time - in the form of a children's "live" TV series - to show aspects of life in 18th century Scotland: farming, transport, education, emigration, families, town and country life, religion and superstition.

Using Burns' own words from his poems, songs and letters, the programmes place the man and his work in context. They introduce pupils to the idea of change and continuity, and aim to help them to understand and make use of historical evidence.

The individual programme titles are:

Mice and lice: Country life
Amang ye takin' notes: Life in the capital
A Melodic din to the lugs: Scotland and its songs
Warlocks in the mirk: The story of `Tam O'Shanter'
The Cauld blast: Kings and revolution
