Dr Euan MacDonald travels to New Zealand to work at Rotorua hospital alongside one of the highest Māori populations in the country.
Euan faces hard decisions - he breaks devastating news and deals with patients discharging against medical advice. He sees the hospital’s Māori dedicated healthcare team in action, learns some Te Reo Māori and experiences how Māori culture is reflected within the hospital.
Euan finds out about healthcare inequities for the indigenous population and talks to those who have suffered racism because of their Māori heritage. He also immerses himself in the rich cultural landscape. He is a linesman for the day at a Māori rugby tournament, learns a haka and celebrates Māori new year.
Euan meets fellow Gaels who have made New Zealand their home and explores this precious ecosystem of geothermal activity.
